Workshop 17-18 June 2010 : Turbulence decay of the afternoon transition

Topic and objective:

Like the first workshop on this topic, this second workshop will bring together research scientists who plan to work on this transitory part of the day, where all competitive forcings are weak, turbulence is decaying and the boundary layer is beginning to stratify, at the end of a convective day. This transition remains poorly understood, though it may have significant impacts on trace gas transport and scale interaction.

A project now called BLLAST (Boundary Layer Late Afternoon and Sunset Turbulence) started with the previous workshop. During the workshop, we will review our ongoing works, state our funding requests and plans, and prepare the 2011 field campaign, discussing our modeling and observation strategies and needs.

Location

The workshop has been held in Lannemezan on 17 and 18 June 2010, at the instrumented site of the Laboratoire d’Aérologie, called ‘Centre de recherches Atmosphériques’ (CRA), 8 route de Lannemezan, 65300 Campistrous, FRANCE.
